Hunting?

Hello, maybe some of you all have done or know about this, probably. But it's rather a new idea to me, so am curious:

Last hunting season my wife's sister's boyfriend and I were talking, he was telling me how they hunt turkey and a few other things. Having no family that's ever hunted I didn't know this: But often there's angst in the party because everyone wants to hunt but there are one or more members required to do other tasks like manage the dogs, operate the calling apparatus I don't remember what it's called but it's a box you draw a bow-like instrument across, similar stuff.
It came around to, hey, why not a blind guy? After all, we'll never be able to take a shot at one, so we just sorta went on, and it came to his dogs, he's got two. I didn't think about this till recently I read some of the guide dog boards. Some of you all would be perfect as the handlers. Not with your own dogs, of course, but whoever manages the group of dogs manages people's dogs that aren't theirs. And, well, who better than you?
Anyway, has anyone actually done this? Gone on a hunting trip and participated? I was going to last year, but due to some family falling out and the like things didn't happen. Maybe it's the fall weather reminded me of it, but anyway I'd be interested in hearing what you all have done.
Hopefully this won't turn into an animal rights debate: there are other places for that, and besides, we could describe how a human hunter kills prey vs. the sometimes two days it takes for wild predators to run down prey, taking bites off them as they run along.
Anyway, don't know if I'll ever do it, you know so much going on you never really do everything you're curious about. But I'd personally be really interested in reading what you did.

Hey, don't think you can't take a shot at one. My husband is a big time hunter and watches all the hunting shows. One show had a blind hunter and he shot a deer or something. They had a special scope on it so a person standing behind them could see out of it and would tell hin when to shoot. As for the dog idea, that would probably work out well if you like to be outdoors.

Hmm interesting as I said I've never even considered it. Don't know if I would in that we were talking about it from the vantage point of someone going along who wouldn't be in competition for being able to shoot, allowing all my other friends in the party a chance while I could do the non-shooting tasks. For me that would be fine, but people who really want to shoot could use that show you saw.

I have been the caller before, and the shooter, never handled the dogs because the dogs i grew up with only respond to their masters. However, you can go hunting and shoot the gun yourself without special equipment. I've seen and done it many times. It takes practice and preporation, but it is easily possible if you wanted to try it. Maybe not with turkeys, but ducks easily, and deer.

Wow I'd simply never heard of this, but then again this site has been quite informative ...

I'd love to do this. Dad never took me duck hunting and I always wanted to go. Oh I'd love to get me a deer. Yes oldschool blind girls can hunt too. How big was the deer the blind guy got? Tiffany
